Stored In Peptide Hormones

Amylin

Amylin is a hormone found in the human body. It is secreted by the beta cells of the pancreas. Amylin is composed of 37 amino acids. It is classified as a peptide hormone.
Secretion and Production

Amylin is produced in and secreted from the beta cells of the pancreas at the same time as insulin secretion. Its actions supplement those of insulin. Some of the effects of amylin are to inhibit the secretion of glucagon, slow the emptying of the stomach, and send a satiety signal to the brain.
Pharmacological Uses

Synthetic amylin is commonly used along with insulin to control diabetes. Studies have shown that insulin-deficient diabetics are equally deficient in amylin secretion, and supplementing amylin along with insulin better controls blood-glucose levels.
