Stored In Vitamin D Derivates

Calcitriol

Calcitriol is a hormone found in the human body. It is secreted by the parathyroid hormone. It is classified as a sterol hormone.
Secretion and Production
Calcitriol is a derivative of vitamin D. It is produced in and secreted from the parathyroid gland. Calcitriol acts on the cells of the intestine to promote the absorption of calcium from food, and the bone to mobilize calcium from the bone to the blood.

Pharmacological Uses

Synthetic calcitriol is commonly used to treat bone-weakening disorders, such as osteoporosis and rickets.
