Follicle-Stimulating Hormone

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone found in the human body. It is secreted by the gonadotropes in the anterior pituitary gland. FSH is considered a peptide hormone.
Secretion and Production

FSH is produced in and secreted by the gonadotropes in the anterior pituitary gland. FSH is concerned with the regulation of the sex organs in both males and females. In females, FSH stimulates development of the egg. In males FSH stimulates the development of the tubules of the testes and determines the number of sperm released at orgasm.
Pharmacological Uses

Synthetic FSH is generally combined with synthetic luteinizing hormone and used as a drug to combat infertility by stimulating the development of eggs in women and sperm in men.
